ASOS is active in the ultrafast fashion sector, offers around 4,000 new pieces per week, is aimed at buyers who buy via smartphone and radically shortens the time from the first appearance of a trend on the catwalk to the sale to the customer.

history

ASOS.com was founded in June 2000 by Nick Robertson and Quentin Griffiths. Although ASOS is an acronym for AsSeenOnScreen , the logo's letters have been lowercase since it was first introduced by Ben Lewin in 2008. However, ASOS is still capitalized as an acronym .

In 2001 ASOS plc was admitted to the Alternative Investment Market and the London Stock Exchange .

In 2005, a dangerous explosion (the Buncefield Depot tank farm fire) damaged the ASOS warehouse. The sale was therefore suspended for six weeks.

In the last quarter of 2011, ASOS completed three international warehouses in Germany, France and the United States in addition to the one in the United Kingdom.

In September 2011, ASOS was also launched in Spain, Australia and Italy.

The first international headquarters opened in Sydney, Australia in 2012, while this September 2013 they expanded to the United States (NY, Rochester).

In 2013 ASOS opened its first office outside the South West, in Birmingham . In the same year, ASOS had recalled belts because they were contaminated with the radioactive cobalt-60 . Sales have also started in China and Russia.

ASOS currently employs over 4,000 people, making it the UK's largest independent fashion and beauty retailer.

In the summer of 2014, orders could not be processed for three days due to a fire in the Barnsley department store.

In 2015, ASOS partnered with CoppaFeel , a London-based breast cancer awareness charity . For example, ASOS had sewn labels onto their own brand women's underwear with the campaign label "#BraHijack" (in German #BHEntführung ) so that the disease received more attention.

In 2017 ASOS opened its own logistics center in Großbeeren , Germany . Since then, customers have had the opportunity to have their order delivered within one working day.

features

ASOS provides potential customers with individual videos of catwalk models of most of the products on the site. Several areas are available in the webshop. Fashion items from previous seasons are offered in the ASOS outlet and thus competes with numerous providers in the discount sector. ASOS also has its own collections, such as ASOS Africa (African clothing style), ASOS White (light clothing), as well as its own product lines, such as ASOS Curve (large sizes for men and women) and ASOS Tall (for tall women). Formerly, children's collections were also covered with Little-ASOS (children's collections), but this has now been discontinued. In addition, ASOS operates the #AsSeenOnMe community portal, where customers can present their ASOS clothing, and an editorial team for ASOS Magazine.

ASOS sponsored the McLaren team during the 2014 Formula 1 season . Initially, it was believed that the sponsorship would be a one-off deal only given on the 2014 Australian Grand Prix course , the first race of the season. This turned out to be wrong, however, as the ASOS.com logo was seen on the rear wing of the 2014 Formula One race car throughout the season.
