The class 3450 of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway comprised ten steam locomotives the wheel arrangement 2'C2 ', which in 1927 Baldwin Locomotive Works were built. They were originally coal -fired, but switched to oil-firing in the 1930s. At the same time the diameter of been driving wheels from 73 to 79 inches and the boiler pressure of 10 lb / square inch to 230 pounds / square inch increases. These changes resulted in a decrease in starting tractive effort from 44,250 lb to 43,300 lb, but in turn increased top speed and efficiency. It was originally used in the Midwest between Chicago and Colorado . Some were later relocated to the San Joaquin Valley between Bakersfield and Oakland .

They were smaller and less strong than the later-added locomotives of the series 3460 , but were able to achieve a similar high speed.

The first built locomotive, number 3450, was donated to the Southern California Association of the Railway and Locomotive Historical Society in 1955 and is stationed in their museum at the Los Angeles County Fairgrounds in Pomona, California . The vehicle is not in working order, but its exterior is well preserved and exhibited.
