The Aar-Bote was a local edition of the former Wiesbadener Tagblatt and a formerly independent daily newspaper in the north-western part of the Rheingau-Taunus district in western Untertaunus in the area of western Hintertaunus . The local editorial office was located in Bad Schwalbach . The name was derived from the river Aar . The newspaper was discontinued on January 1, 2020. Since then, the Untertaunus edition of the Wiesbadener Kurier still bears the additional name Aar-Bote in the subtitle, which is reminiscent of the earlier daily newspaper.

The Aar-Bote was founded in 1861 by the Bad Schwalbacher Wagner family. The first test edition appeared on September 7, 1861. The Aar-Bote has been published daily since 1880.

In 1951 the Wagner family sold the newspaper to the Mainz publishing house , which later became part of the VRM (media company) . In 2011 the newspaper turned 150 years old, which was celebrated with a panel discussion on the history of the Aar-Boten, a stand at the major event Fahr zur Aar , a special supplement and numerous excerpts from historical newspaper content.

The Aar-Bote is part of the Rhein Main Presse and is published by the VRM (media company) . The competitor is the Untertaunus edition of the Wiesbadener Kurier .

The editor-in-chief is Friedrich Roeingh , local editors in Bad Schwalbach are Susanne Stoppelbein and Hannelore Wiedemann.
