Go to the Aar
Fahr zur Aar is a major car-free event that has been held annually at the end of May since 2001 in the Aartal between Taunusstein - Bleidenstadt and Diez an der Lahn in the western Lower Taunus , part of the western Hintertaunus .
For this purpose, the federal highway 54 (Aarstrasse) will be closed to motorized traffic over a length of 39 km. The target groups are cyclists, inline skaters and, to a lesser extent, hikers. The latter increasingly walk the parallel Aar-Höhenweg and use the wide range of gastronomic options offered by private individuals, clubs and commercial providers. In a few years, draisines operated by the Aartalbahn working group and museum trains from the Nassau Tourist Railway operated on the parallel Aartalbahn .
The alignment and planning of Fahr zur Aar is shared by the neighboring communities and towns of Taunusstein , Bad Schwalbach , Hohenstein , Aarbergen ( Rheingau-Taunus district , Hesse ) and the municipalities of Hahnstätten and Diez ( Rhein-Lahn district , Rhineland-Palatinate ) .
In 2009 around 70,000 people took part in the campaign.
