Aaron Schejnmann

Aaron Schejnmann ( Russian Арон Львович Шейнман / Aron Lwowitsch Scheinman ; * December 24, 1885 July / January 5,  1886 greg. In Suwałki , Russian Empire ; † May 22, 1944 in London , United Kingdom ) was a Soviet politician and President of the Central Bank of the Soviet Union .

Life

In 1917 Schejnmann was chairman of the Helsingfors Soviet . After the defeat of the Reds in the Finnish Civil War , Schejnmann was briefly used in 1920 in the Democratic Republic of Georgia as a representative of the RSFSR .

Already at the end of 1920 as a financial expert he became a member of the People's Commissariat for Finance of the Soviet Union. From 1921 to 1924 he was President of the Central Bank of the Soviet Union. After his release in 1924, however, he was reappointed President of the Central Bank from 1926 to 1929.

From 1929 to 1933 Schejnmann worked as chairman of the Amtorg Trading Corporation in New York City . From 1933 he was employed by Intourist in London and held the post of director from 1937 to 1939. After his recall, he did not comply with the request to return to Moscow. He stayed in London.

In 1939, Scheynmann was granted British citizenship .
