Abbé Bessire

Arnold Bessire , known as Abbé Bessire (born September 30, 1922 in Vermes in what is now the canton of Jura , Switzerland ; † April 1, 1999 in Zurich ), was a Swiss theologian , musician and song arranger .

Life and education

He went through elementary school in Delémont and Le Noirmont . In the cellar of the rectory in Delémont there was an old, out of tune piano that regularly tempted the boy to improvise. He learned how to read music himself within a short time. After studying theology for 6 years, he was ordained a priest in Laval (Mayenne) in April 1949 . On the side he began to compose and made a name for himself as a church organist . After his ordination he went to the Music Academy of Vienna and studied the organ there . He also played guitar and accordion. He also worked as an arranger and copywriter. In 1982 he was awarded the Golden Treble Clef for his musical achievements .

death

From 1966 until his death he worked as a vicar in the parish Herz Jesu in Zurich-Wiedikon. The burial took place on April 8, 1999 in Zurich.
