Abdülkadir Aygan

Abdülkadir Aygan (born 1958 in Uzunhıdır ) is a former member of the PKK and was involved as a defector in crimes of the JİTEM in the Kurdish regions of Turkey.

Adolescent years and membership of the PKK

Abdülkadir Aygan was born in 1958 in the village of Uzunhıdır in Suruç ( Şanlıurfa Province ). He attended the vocational high school in Adana for car mechanics (Adana Motor Meslek Lisesi) and took part in armed clashes with the right-wing extremist Ülküc students in Adana. During an exchange of fire, Aygan was hit by two bullets in the back above the right kidney. At the hospital, Aygan received a visit from Abdullah Öcalan , with whom he is closely related. Their grandfathers were cousins. In 1977, Aygan dropped out of school and joined the forerunner of the PKK. Here he took part in armed actions. During this time he was under the command of Terzi Cemal, who was later executed by the PKK . In 1980, Aygan was caught and sentenced to prison. He spent about 1.5 years in various prisons. After his release, Aygan was drafted into military service in 1982 and stationed in Cyprus. Here Aygan fled to the Greek Cypriot side, went to Austria and Germany and was again active for the PKK. Aygan received training in the PKK camp in Lebanon and was involved in the official start of the PKK's armed struggle in Turkey in 1984.

Break with the PKK

When Aygan witnessed an internal execution of an alleged traitor within the PKK, he fled and surrendered to the Turkish security forces. Major Cem Ersever conducted the interrogation and Aygan cooperated. He was sentenced to life in prison and taken to the community cell for defectors in Diyarbakır Military Prison . In 1990 Aygan was pardoned and again drafted into the military to complete his military service. According to his own account, he was visited again by Major Cem Ersever in Kars and now actively recruited for the illegal intelligence service of the JITEM gendarmerie . Aygan was officially employed by the gendarmerie and pronounced dead. He was given a new identity called Aziz Turan. Aygan was active under a false name for the JITEM until 1999 and was involved in numerous crimes during this time. In 1999, Aygan was transferred to Burdur as a civilian employee , submitted his release in 2001, left the country with his family and applied for asylum in Sweden. In Sweden his reports were processed into a book in which Aygan described the crimes of the JITEM in detail. Based on his information, there were several legal proceedings in Turkey for various murders. The book also contains evidence that Aygan was actually employed by the gendarmerie. The Colonel a. D. Abdülkerim Kırca shot himself in 2009 a few hours after Aygan reported that he had witnessed Kırca shooting three people in southeastern Turkey. He also reported on the kidnapping and subsequent murder of Murat Aslan. Aygan's information later led to the discovery of the body. According to Aygan, prominent people among the several dozen murder victims of the JITEM were u. a. Musa Anter and Vedat Aydın .

Aygan is married and has five children.
