Abd al-Kuri ( Arabic عبد الكوري ʿAbd al-Kūrī ) is the second largest and most westerly island of the Socotra Archipelago in the north-western Indian Ocean . Politically, it belongs to the Socotra Governorate , Yemen .

geography

The island is 95 km east of Cape Guardafui , the northeasternmost point of the Horn of Africa , and about 350 km south of the Arabian Peninsula at the eastern end of the Gulf of Aden . It is about 105 km away from the main island of Socotra .

Abd al-Kuri is 36 km long, up to 5.8 km wide and has an area of ​​133 km². Around 450 inhabitants (as of 2011) populate the island; The main town is Kilmia on the south coast. The dry, hilly island in the Jabal Salih reaches a height of 700 m above sea level.
