Abd al-Wahid II ar-Rashid

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Abd al-Wahid II ar-Rashid ( Arabic عبد الواحد الرشيد, DMG ʿAbd al-Wāḥid ar-Rašīd , also Rashid ) was the ninth caliph of the Almohads (1232-1242).

Abd al-Wahid II ar-Raschid succeeded his father Idris I al-Mamun (1227-1232), under whose rule the empire had been badly shaken by the attack on the Almohad institutions. A new stabilization should no longer succeed. After the fall of the Hafsids from Tunis (1229), they officially declared their independence in 1236.

A year earlier, the Berber tribe of the Abdalwadids had established an independent empire in western Algeria with the capital Tlemcen . In the period that followed, the struggle for the preservation of the empire was mainly fought in Morocco . The main opponent was the Berber tribe of the Merinids / Banu Marin. He was succeeded by his brother Ali Abul-Hasan as-Said (1242-1248).
