Abdallah al-Adil

Abdallah al-Adil ( Arabic أبو محمد عبد الله العادل بن يوسف, DMG Abū Muḥammad ʿAbd Allāh al-ʿĀdil b. Yūsuf ) was the seventh Almohad caliph (1224–1227).

After the death of Yusuf II al-Mustansir (1213-1224) power struggles broke out among the tribal leaders of the Almohads . Abd al-Wahid I al-Muchlu, a son of Abu Yaqub Yusuf I , was deposed as successor to Yusuf II after just a few months.

The new caliph was Abdallah al-Adil, a son of Yaʿqūb al-Mansūr . The decline of the empire continued. In addition to the uprisings and revolts of the Arab Bedouins , the Almohads were further weakened by internal power struggles. In 1227, al-Adil's brother Idris I al-Mamun (governor of Seville ) revolted in Andalusia , landed in Morocco with 12,000 mercenaries , overthrew Abdallah al-Adil and, with his troops, was able to stand up against the other heir to the throne as the eighth caliph (1227-1232 ) push through.
