Abdi (first name)
Abdi are two or three biblical persons that appear in the Tanakh , the Hebrew Bible :
- a Levite from the house of Meraris . He was the father of Kizhi , probably a contemporary of Saul ( 1st book of Chronicles 6:29).
- another Levite, also from the house of Meraris, father of Kish (2 Chron. 29:12).
Because both names and their origins are similar, some Bible dictionaries see them as the same person. But Kish's father was probably a contemporary of the kings Jotham and Ahaz , who lived from 777 BC. Until about 746 BC Ruled. The father of Kizhi, on the other hand, lived about 250 years after King David in the days of Hezekiah .
- a son of Elam ( Ezra 10:26). He was one of the Israelites who had taken foreign women but sent them away on Esra's admonition. This happened after Ezra returned to Jerusalem in the seventh year of King Artaxerxes I (Longimanus) (468 BC) .
