Abdou AB Njie

Abdou AB Njie (* in the 20th century) is a Gambian economist , politician and banker. He was Central Bank - Governor in the West African country Gambia .

Life

Njie holds a Bachelor of Science degree , an Honors degree in Economics from the University of London and a Postgraduate Diploma in Agricultural Economics from the University of Reading .

He was State Secretary in the Ministry of Economic Planning and Industrial Development (MEPID) and was the chief economic advisor to the Minister of Finance and Economics on monetary and macroeconomic issues. He also worked for ten years as Deputy Governor at the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and as an advisor to the African Development Bank (ADB) and the Islamic Development Bank (IDB).

From January 1989 to October 1994 he was Governor of the Central Bank of Gambia . He was replaced by Momodou Clarke Bajo after the Yahya Jammeh coup . Afterwards, Njie worked as a Senior Management Consultant at Sahel Invest Management International (SIMI), a leading consulting company in Gambia, and was a board member of Sahel Bank of Industry and Commerce (BSIC) Gambia Ltd.

As of 2017, he has been a member of a 19-member national think tank, a non-political and multidisciplinary panel of experts selected to determine the political direction for the government.
