The Islamic Development Bank ( English Islamic Development Bank , IDB , Arab البنك الإسلامي للتنمية, DMG al-bank al-islāmī li-t-tanmiya ) is a supranational development bank that aims to support the development of the poorer countries of the Arab world. It was founded in July 1975 by the members of the Organization of the Islamic Conference and is based in Jeddah , Saudi Arabia .
structure
The IDB consists of two bodies, the Board of Governors and the Executive Board. Representatives (governors) of the member countries meet once a year. Each country sends a governor and a deputy governor. Usually these are the respective finance ministers of the federal states and their deputies. The Board of Governors decides on the budget and powers of the development bank . As the executive body, the Executive Board is responsible for managing the bank's budget. It consists of 14 people. Seven of them provide the largest subscribers to capital , the remaining member states elect the remaining seven executive directors.
Project funding
Projects are funded according to the principles of Islamic banking . These are both infrastructural and social policy measures. Money is also flowing in non-member states, mainly to support Islamic education centers.
Members
In principle, all states that are also members of the Organization for Islamic Cooperation can become members. 56 states are currently members.
