Momodou Clarke Bajo

Momodou Clarke Bajo (* late 1940s in Sukuta ; † February 2, 2009 in Bakau , Kanifing Municipal) was a Gambian economist . He was Central Bank - Governor in the West African country Gambia .

Life

The son of Malang Bajo from Gunjur and Sarata Jatta from Sukuta, Bajo began his primary education at Sukuta Primary School. Then he moved to Armitage High School and later Gambia High School . After high school, he enrolled at the only college available in the country at the time, Yundum Teachers Training College . He taught at the Faraba Bantang Primary School in Kombo East District. After graduating from college, he taught English and history at Crab Island Junior Secondary School in Banjul .

In the late 1970s he received another scholarship for his degree in economics from the prestigious Yale University in Connecticut . After completing his master's degree in the United States, Bajo returned to his native Gambia and started working at the central bank , where he was able to apply his expertise in international monetary policy. He rose through the ranks to the position of General Manager and finally to the top position of Governor, where he served for nearly a decade. He was Governor of the Central Bank of Gambia from October 1994 to November 2003 , when he retired. After leaving the Central Bank, Bajo helped found Oceanic Bank (Gambia) Ltd. involved and was its chairman of its board of directors until his death.

Bajo died in 2009 after a short illness in the Ndeban Clinic in Bakau , Kanifing Municipal.
