Kombo East is one of 35 districts - the second highest level of administrative division - in the West African state of Gambia . It is one of nine districts in the West Coast Region .
According to a calculation from 2013 about 33,849 inhabitants live there, the result of the last published census of 2003 was 28,146.
The name is derived from Kombo , a former small empire.

According to a survey from 1993 ( census at the time ), the Mandinka represented the largest population group with a share of around five-tenths, followed by the Jola and the Fula. The distribution in detail: 50.2% Mandinka , 10.7% Fula , 0.6% Wolof , 28.8% Jola , 0.4% Serahule , 2% Serer , 0% Aku , 4.4% Manjago , 0 , 1% Bambara and 2.7% other races.
