Kombo North is one of 35 districts - the second highest level of administrative division - in the West African state of Gambia . It is one of nine districts in the West Coast Region .
According to a calculation from 2013 about 294,224 inhabitants live there, the result of the last published census of 2003 was 166,351.
The name is derived from Kombo , a former small empire.

According to a survey from 1993 ( census at the time ), the Mandinka represented the largest population group with a share of around five-tenths, followed by the Jola and the Fula. The distribution in detail: 46.8% Mandinka , 12.9% Fula , 11.5% Wolof , 17.9% Jola , 1.6% Serahule , 2.8% Serer , 0.5% Aku , 3.1 % Manjago , 0.7% Bambara and 2.2% other ethnic groups.
Seyfo
Seyfo of the district was Eric Tunde Janneh around 2002 , he was replaced by Demba Sanyang in 2005 . Sanyang retired at the end of 2017 due to age and health issues. Effective December 29, 2017, this role was transferred to Momodou LK Bojang , a former senior police officer and judge at the Kanifing Local Court .
