Foni Bondali is one of 35 districts - the second highest level of administrative division - in the West African state of Gambia . It is one of nine districts in the West Coast Region .

According to a calculation from 2013 about 7188 inhabitants live there, the result of the last published census from 2003 was 6049.

The name is derived from Foni , a former small empire.

population

According to a survey from 1993 ( census at the time ), the largest population group is the Jola with a share of around five-tenths, followed by the Mandinka and the Fula. The distribution in detail: 16.7% Mandinka , 26.1% Fula , 1.1% Wolof , 50.9% Jola , 0% Serahule , 0.7% Serer , 0% Aku , 0% Manjago , 0.6 % Bambara and 3.9% other races.
