Foni Jarrol is one of 35 districts - the second highest level of administrative division - in the West African state of Gambia . It is one of nine districts in the West Coast Region .

According to a calculation from 2013 about 7146 inhabitants live there, the result of the last published census from 2003 was 5943.

The name is derived from Foni , a former small empire.

population

According to a survey from 1993 ( census at the time ), the largest population group is the Jola with a share of around four-tenths, followed by the Mandinka and the Fula. The distribution in detail: 24.4% Mandinka , 20% Fula , 0.5% Wolof , 38% Jola , 0.1% Serahule , 0.5% Serer , 0% Aku , 0.3% Manjago , 0.1 % Bambara and 16.2% other races.
