Kombo Central is one of 35 districts - the second highest level of administrative division - in the West African state of Gambia . It is one of nine districts in the West Coast Region .
According to a calculation from 2013 about 113,122 inhabitants live there, the result of the last published census of 2003 was 84,315.
The name is derived from Kombo , a former small empire.

According to a survey from 1993 ( census at the time ), the Mandinka represented the largest population group with a share of around five-tenths, followed by the Jola and the Fula. The distribution in detail: 49.2% Mandinka , 12.8% Fula , 5% Wolof , 21.8% Jola , 1.7% Serahule , 1.9% Serer , 0.3% Aku , 4.9% Manjago , 0.4% Bambara and 2% other races.
