Kembujeh (spelling variants: Kambujae , Kembujae , Kembujay or Kembuji ) is a town in the West African state of Gambia .

According to a calculation for 2013, there are around 4028 inhabitants, the result of the last published census from 1993 was 1988.

Kembujeh is located in the West Coast Region , Kombo Central district , around 3.5 kilometers west of Brikama , on the road to Jambajeli .

history

The settlement of the Kembujeh area began in 1959 on behalf of Sanjally Bojang. The land belonged to the Suma Kunda family from neighboring Brikama , who used the land for agriculture. Another part of the country was controlled by Mansaring Suu from Brikama. The settlement was initially to be given the name Misira , but the name Kembujeh - which is of older origin - prevails . The origin of the name of Kembujeh could not be clarified.

Culture

The land of Kembujeh was known as a place of African rites even before it was settled. The cult sites Nyani Berre , Kulunbata Manpata , Bareng Baa and Makasutu are listed.
