Famara L. Jatta (* 16th July 1958 , † 17 March 2012 in Tunisia ) was a Minister and Central Bank - Governor in the West African country Gambia .

Career

In 1983 he was in the United States for a stay . He earned a degree (MA Regional Planning and Economics) on the Cheney State College in Pennsylvania and in 1992 one on the Harvard University (MA Public Enterprise Policy and Management) .

After a career as an economist, he switched to government service and in 1994 became Secretary of State for Trade, Industry and Employment . On March 3, 1998, Jatta took over the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs and served in this office until September 25, 2003. He was succeeded in this position by Musa Gibril Bala Gaye .

Since then he has served as governor of the Central Bank of The Gambia , the Gambian central bank. In this position he was praised by the President and confirmed in 2006 for a further five years. In July 2007, he resigned and took a job at the African Development Bank (ADB) agency in Sudan. Jatta's criticism of President Yahya Jammeh's strong influence on central bank policy has become known as the reasons for his resignation .

Famara Jatta died on Saturday, March 17, 2012, just days after an operation.
