Momodou Bamba Saho

Momodou Bamba Saho ORG (* 1962 in Bathurst ) is a Gambian economist . He was Central Bank - Governor in the West African country Gambia and is now Director General of the West African Monetary Agency (WAMA).

Life

Saho graduated from International Islamic University in Malaysia with a bachelor's degree in economics in 1988 . Graduated from the London School of Economics with an MSc in Analysis, Design and Management of Information Systems in 1992 and qualified as a professional accountant with the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants in the UK in 1993 .

From August 2007 to October 2010 Saho was Governor of the Central Bank of Gambia. He was with the Central Bank for twenty-seven years from June 1988 . During this time he held positions of First Deputy Governor, Director General and Director of Banking Services, among others. During this time, he contributed to the improvement of the Central Bank's work in the areas of currency operations, public debt, payment systems, currency management, financial reporting, information systems development and monetary policy. After a period of economic crisis in 2001-2003, Saho oversaw, among other things, political and operational reforms related to the conduct of monetary policy, supervision of the financial sector, central bank independence, and the accounting, budgeting and management practices that contributed to this to increase the central bank's credibility and help restore macroeconomic stability.

From 2007 to 2009, Mr. Saho was Chairman of the Gambia Divestiture Agency . He was also a member of the National Planning Commission of The Gambia from 2007 to 2010 and Chairman of the Gambia Telecommunications Company from 2008 to 2010 . He was initially deputy managing director and then managing director for Group 1 of African countries at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) from November 2010 to October 2014. At the IMF, he represented and defended the interests of 22 sub-Saharan African countries on the Executive Board and helped oversee the IMF to ensure that it carried out its mandate effectively. Saho also chaired the Executive Board's Ethics Committee.

On August 8, 2016, Saho took over the position of General Director of the West African Monetary Agency, a subsidiary of the West African Economic Community in Freetown (Sierra Leone).
