Summit storm is a German feature film and a film adaptation of the (alleged) first ascent of the Zugspitze by Lieutenant Josef Naus in 1820. The film was produced in 2006, but it was first broadcast on April 8, 2007 on Bavarian television .

action

The Tyrolean Josef Naus , veteran of the Napoleonic Wars, now serves as a lieutenant in the Bavarian Army . In 1820 he received an order from the army command to topographically survey the Zugspitze area. He goes to work there with his grumpy fellow Schani, but does not meet with much enthusiasm from the locals. They see in the two soldiers, of whom the officer is, of all people, a Tyrolean, a former enemy, troublemakers and doomers.

The locals believe in the so-called Zuggeist, which they blame for all sorts of calamities and whose embodiment they see in a golden eagle . There is a general superstition that this spirit guards a spring root on the summit of the Zugspitze, which promises eternal wealth. Previous attempts to find the spring root have been fatal. Naus, however, strives for higher things. He wants to be the first to climb the summit of the Zugspitze in order to increase his chances of advancement in the military and his social reputation. But Naus still expect other kinds of adversity.

He falls in love with the young maid and mother Afra, who in turn suffers from her host, the Bärenmartl. In doing so, he also endangers his work, because the father of his fiancée in Munich finances his scientific activities. Nevertheless, he broke off this engagement without much hesitation. But Görgl, a young local who has just been released from prison in Landsberg after a five-year prison sentence for poaching , has his eyes on Afra. Naus knows Naus from the war, in which, however, as a Bavarian he was hostile to the Tyrolean, but was spared by Naus in the battle.

useful information

  • The shooting took place in July and August 2006 in Matrei and the surrounding area in East Tyrol, on the Hintertux Glacier and on the Zugspitze .
  • Josef Naus is considered the official first climber of the Zugspitze. On September 19, 2006, after the shooting of the film was over, the German Alpine Association announced that an old map from the 18th century had been found in the archive, the detailed knowledge of which makes it possible to climb the Zugspitze before Naus.
