Abdulghafur Sabuni

Abdulghafur Sabuni (born November 14, 1940 in Aleppo , Syria ), Abd al-Ghafur Sabuni , Abd 'al-Gafur Ṣābūnī , is a Syrian Arabist and university professor .

academic career

Abdulghafur Sabuni studied German and Russian from 1969 to 1971 at the University of Mainz at the Institute for Applied Linguistics in Germersheim with a diploma. He then worked from 1971 to 1974 on a research project of the German Research Foundation at the University of Mainz at the Institute for Arabic Studies in Germersheim. From 1974 to 1977 he studied Semitic Studies , Islamic Studies and Linguistics at the University of Heidelberg . In 1979 he was in Heidelberg with a thesis on the phonology and morphology of the Arabic dialect of Aleppo doctorate . From 1977 to 2006 he was a lecturer for the Arabic language at the Asia-Africa Institute, Department for History and Culture of the Middle East at the University of Hamburg .
