Abel Ferreira (composer)

Abel Ferreira (born February 15, 1915 in Coromandel , Minas Gerais , Brazil , † April 13, 1980 in Rio de Janeiro , Rio de Janeiro ) was a Brazilian composer , clarinetist and saxophonist .

Life

Abel Ferreira began learning the clarinet at the age of twelve. At the age of seventeen he moved to Belo Horizonte to work as a musician on the radio. In 1935 he went to São Paulo and became a member of Maurício Cascapera's orchestra . In 1942 he recorded his first record as a clarinetist with the Choro Chorando baixinho . This was followed by recordings, appearances with various well-known Brazilian musicians, such as Carmen Miranda , Waldir Azevedo , Sivuca and Beth Carvalho, and concert tours through Europe and the Soviet Union . Due to his individual style on the clarinet and the saxophone, he is one of the most important wind instrumentalists in Brazil alongside Pixinguinha and Luiz Americano .
