Abel François Nicolas Caroillon de Vandeul

Abel François Nicolas Caroillon de Vandeul (born January 29, 1746 in Langres - † January 18, 1813 in Paris ) was a French industrialist, maître de forges and husband of Denis Diderot's only surviving daughter , née Marie-Angélique Diderot (* 2 September 1753 - December 5, 1824).

He was the son of Nicolas Caroillon (1708–1766), a tobacco trader , from Langres, and his wife, born Simone La Salette (1716–1788). Simone La Salette was a childhood sweetheart of Denis Diderot.

Caroillon de Vandeul married on September 9, 1772 and lived with his wife Marie-Angélique Diderot on Rue de Bourbon in Paris. The couple acquired the Abbaye d'Auberive after the French Revolution . The couple had a son who reached adulthood. Denis-Simon Caroillon de Vandeul (1775–1850) also worked in the field of iron production, maître de forge and politically active.

The son Denis-Simon Caroillon de Vandeul married Eugénie Cardon (1794-1875) in 1811. Her daughter Marie-Angélique Wilhelmine Caroillon de Vandeul (1813-1900) was married to Charles Louis baron Le Vavasseur († 1894), the great-grandfather of Jacques Le Vavasseur , on May 5, 1834 .

In 1796 he inherited the estate of Château de Prauthoy from his brother .

In 1798 he became the new owner of the glass factory in Rouelles ( Champagne-Ardenne region ), which previously belonged to the encyclopedist Antoine Allut . Glass bottles and window glass were produced. The company existed until 1840.
