Abel Yenukidze
Abel Yenukidze ( Georgian აბელ ენუქიძე , IPA : [ ɑbɛl.ɛnukʰid͜zɛ ]; Russian Авель Сафронович Енукидзе / Awel Safronowitsch Yenukidze ; born May 7, Jul. / 19th May 1877 . Greg , † the thirtieth October 1937 ) was a Soviet politician of Georgian origin .
Life
Yenukidze was a relative of Josef Stalin and his first wife Ketewan Swanidze . He was a Bolshevik from the very beginning. Yenukidze knew the family of Stalin and Sergei Alliluyev from Georgia, where he had worked with them. He belonged to the inner circle of the nomenklatura of the Stalin era .
Yenukidze was also close to Stalin's second wife, Nadezhda Alliluyeva . He was her godfather and best man. He had danced with her the night before her death and had been the first to see her body afterwards.
In July 1935, Yenukidze was removed from all posts by the plenum of the Central Committee and expelled from the party. On February 11, 1937, during the Great Wave of Terrorism , he was arrested, tried, sentenced to death on October 29, 1937, and executed the following day.
