Abersoch is a large parish in County Gwynedd, North West Wales , formerly County Caernarfonshire .

General

Abersoch is located on the southeast coast of the Lleyn Peninsula ( Welsh : Penrhyn Llŷn ) on the Irish Sea . The place is 11 km southwest of Pwllheli and 43 km southwest of the city of Caernarfon , the seat of the county government. The name is derived from the Afon Soch river , which flows into the sea here.

The community has a primary school for 3-8 year old children, secondary schools can be found in the neighboring villages, especially in Pwllheli.

tourism

Originally a fishing village, Abersoch is now known for its beach and associated water sports such as sailing and windsurfing. Especially the wind and waves at Porth Neigwl or Hell's Mouth attract extreme surfers. Over the past 60 years it has become one of the most important sailing centers in Britain . However, the associated immigration has severely restricted the Welsh character of the village and the use of the Welsh language, which was originally in use .

A lively shopping and entertainment district has emerged in the center of the community. There are also boat trips around the offshore St. Tudwal's Islands , where seals and sea birds can be seen. Mount Snowdon in nearby Snowdonia National Park can be clearly seen on a clear day. A golf course, a caravan parking lot, numerous hotels, bars and restaurants complete the offer.
