Abida vasconica is a species of grain snail (Chondrinidae) from the suborder of land snails (Stylommatophora).

features

The slim, conical, spindle-shaped housing is 5.4 to 7.1 mm high and 2.0 to 2.4 mm wide. It is reddish horn-colored and has 8 to 9 moderately to strongly arched coils, which initially increase regularly and are separated from each other by a deep seam. The maximum width is already reached before the penultimate turn, after which the width decreases slightly again. The surface is regularly finely striped to roughly ribbed. The mouth is comparatively small; the outer edge is almost always somewhat flattened (occasionally the inner edge as well). As a result, the mouth is more or less significantly higher than it is wide. The mouth edge is slightly to moderately thickened by a white lip. In the parietal area, the mouth edges are connected by a more or less powerful callus; it can be coherent and slightly preferred. The mouth reinforcement consists of up to 11 teeth. The spiral is connected to the angular; There is rarely a weak subangularis parallel to the angularis. Only the strong parietalis is present in the parietal area. The Columellaris is more clearly developed than the Infracolumellaris; both do not extend to the front. The superior palatalis and the shorter inferior palatalis are only hinted at as double cusps and extend forward to the mouth lip. There is also an infrapalatalis, a suprapalatalis, and a suturalis, the latter being quite short. The last turn is flattened at an angle and is somewhat narrowed. The base shows no hint of a keel. The housing is slightly depressed at the location of the superior palatalis. In the side view, the palatal edge of the mouth is slightly bent and oriented vertically. The navel is very narrow and viewed vertically from below only z. T. to see.

In the male part of the genital apparatus, the penis in the lower part of the penis are fused together and form a loop. The "free" part of the penis before it fuses with the epiphallus is quite short. The penis is slightly thicker than the epiphallus, and the free penis is almost half as long as the loop. The penis / epiphallus transition is marked by a short blind sac (caecum or flagellum). In the first third of the proximal part of the penis a pronounced structure is missing, in the second third an indistinct, finely wrinkled longitudinal structure can be seen. The horizontal wrinkles are missing in the last third. In the first fifth of the epiphallus there is no particular internal structure, in the following two fifths there are rather coarse transverse wrinkles. In the last part of the epiphallus a finely cross-wrinkled longitudinal structure is formed, which is twisted in a spiral shortly before the confluence of the vas deferens. The penis retractor starts in half or slightly below half. The spermatic duct is moderately twisted and penetrates the penile tissue just below the point of adhesion between the penis and epiphallus. The vagina is slightly longer to twice as long as the "free" penis. It is more than five times as long as the free, rather short fallopian tube. The stalk of the seminal vesicle is initially only slightly wider than the fallopian tube at the fallopian tube / stalk of the seminal vesicle. The seminal vesicle proper is elongated, the stalk is comparatively short and the seminal vesicle only reaches the level of the prostate gland. However, the stalk is not embedded in the tissue of the prostate gland. The radula has 14 posterior teeth in the semi-transverse row next to the central tooth.

Similar species

Abida vasconica differs from the other Abida species in the slender conical-spindle-shaped habit of the housing, the mouth rim, which is only indented at the point of the superior palatalis, and the short columellaris, infracolumellaris and infrapalatalis.

Geographical distribution and habitat

The distribution area of the species extends in the Cantabrian Mountains (northern Spain) from Asturias , Castile and León , Cantabria to Orduña ( province of Bizkaia ) in the east; Another find is near Saragossa ( Province of Saragossa , Aragon ). The species lives there from about 30 m to 2000 m altitude. Abida vasconica shares its habitat with Abida bigerrensis in several places . The animals live in the vegetation between limestone cliffs or on the surface of limestone cliffs in shaded and damp places, e.g. B. protruding carbonate layers.

Taxonomy

The taxon was first described in 1882 by Wilhelm Kobelt as Pupa vasconica . F. Haas presented the taxon as a subspecies to Chondrina lusitanica . Edmund Gittenberger assigned the species to the genus Abida for the first time in 1973 . The Fauna Europaea accepts the taxon as a separate species.

Danger

According to the assessment of the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN), the species is not endangered despite its comparatively small distribution area.
