Abraham Boom

Abraham Boom (* 1575 in Amsterdam ; † June 26, 1642 ibid) was a regent of Amsterdam during the Golden Age .

biography

Abraham came from the influential Boom patrician family . His parents were the Amsterdam regent Pieter Cornelisz Boom and Griet Gerritsdr. Abraham Boom married Jannetje de Vry (1575–1644). From that marriage came the last of the sex, Cornelis Boom . After his father's death in 1599, Abraham Boom was given his place in the Amsterdam Vroedschap . In 1616 he became captain of the Amsterdam Civil Guard . His terms as mayor fell in the years 1625, 1629, 1630, 1632, 1633, 1635, 1636, 1638 and 1639. Between 1626 and 1628 he was Amsterdam's representative on the Council of States of Holland . In 1638 the regents around Andries Bicker , Albert Burgh , Pieter Hasselaer , Antonie Oetgens van Waveren and Abraham Boom organized the magnificent entry of the former French Queen Maria de 'Medici into Amsterdam.

Abraham Boom was painted on Schützenstück in 1621 by Pieter Lastman . In 1638 Thomas de Keyser created a portrait of him.
