Pieter Pietersz Hasselaer (born December 1, 1583 in Amsterdam , † 1651 ibid) was a mayor of Amsterdam .

Pieter Pietersz Hasselaer

His father was Pieter Dircksz Hasselaer (1554-1616), a merchant, brewer, Schepen (1595-1615) and member of the Amsterdam Vroedschap , and his mother was Aecht Pietersdr Persijn van Beverwaarde. After the Alteratie (1578) he moved from Haarlem to Amsterdam. In the same year Hasselaer worked in the Andries Boelens brewery . As a merchant he traded in Portugal and Spain. In 1594, Pieter Dircksz Hasselaer became a member of the Amsterdam city government and wind lifter of the Compagnie van Verre . Hasselaer was also active in the Dutch East India Company from 1602 .

Pieter Pietersz Hasselaer was married to Agatha Cornelisdr Hooft, a daughter of Cornelis Hooft . Pieter Corneliszoon Hooft was his brother-in-law. In 1626 he came to the city government as Schepen, which he chaired eight times as mayor between 1635 and 1649. In 1638 the regents around Hasselaer, Andries Bicker , Albert Burgh , Antonie Oetgens van Waveren and Abraham Boom organized the magnificent entry of the former French Queen Maria de 'Medici into Amsterdam. Between the years 1646 and 1649 Hasselaer held the town's office of Schouts . In 1650, in the conflict between the rulers of Amsterdam and Wilhelm II of Orange , Hasselaer and his comrade Oetgens van Waveren were sent by the Bicker brothers to forbid Wilhelm of Orange from entering the city.
