Abraham Solomon (born August 1823 in London , † December 19, 1862 in Biarritz ) was an English painter.

Abraham Solomon was born in 1823 as one of eight children to an art-loving merchant family. Two other siblings, sister Rebecca , nine years younger, and Simeon , 21 years younger , also became painters. Both got their first drawing lessons from their older brother Abraham.

At the age of thirteen, Abraham Solomon began his education at the Henry Sass- directed art school in Bloomsbury . In 1839 he was admitted to the Royal Academy . In 1840 he exhibited his first pictures in the Royal Society of British Artists and in the following years in the Royal Academy.

Abraham Solomon mainly painted genre pictures , initially often based on literary models. In the 1850s he began to paint pictures of some originality in design and composition, planning pictures in pairs and thus adding an additional dramaturgical element, such as. z. B. First Class - The Meeting (1854) and Second Class - The Parting (1855) or Waiting for the Verdict and Not Guilty (both 1857). His paintings also show social commitment, such as B. Drowned! Drowned! (1860)

In 1860 Abraham married Solomon, but two years later, in 1862, he died of heart disease in Biarritz.
