The Abshire Island is a small island off the west coast of the Antarctic Peninsula . It is the easternmost of the three Gould Islands in the southwest of Marguerite Bay .
The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named it after Captain Joseph Abshire from the research vessel RV Laurence M. Gould of the US National Science Foundation , who sighted the Gould Islands in January 2009 and determined their position.
