His first calligraphy teacher was Molla Ali Fayesi († 1626). Abu Turab then continued his training with Mir Emad. He was one of Mir Emad's most successful calligraphy students. When Mir Emad was killed in 1615, he was the only person who dared bury him.

After the murder of Mir Emad, Abu Turab became the most famous Persian calligrapher and trained numerous calligraphers. His best known student was Mohammad Mohsen Emami . His sons, Nur ad-Din Mohammed Isfahani and Mohammed Saleh Isfahani , were also eminent calligraphers.
