academic experience Worldwide

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

academic experience Worldwide eV is a registered association with the aim of an exchange between students and refugee academics. The core of the work is a tandem program in which students provide support on a cultural, linguistic and bureaucratic level, while academically trained refugees support the prospective academics in return for their studies. The association was founded in 2015 in Frankfurt am Main and is now also active in Berlin and Munich .

history

In 2013, two female students founded an initiative at the University of Frankfurt and began working in tandem. The association of the same name emerged from the initiative in 2015.

Working method

The association organizes projects with and for refugee scientists and is best known for organizing tandems. The tandems are organized between students and refugee academics in the same subject (the refugee serves as a professional mentor, the student helps with language and cultural issues). An interdisciplinary seminar is also offered. The advocacy group is supposed to help the refugee academics so that their voices are heard again and public relations work influences the homogeneous "refugee" image in the media. aeWorldwide creates contacts in business, e.g. B. in the form of fireside chats. The association collects donations and finances the participants u. a. German courses, exams and public transport tickets. academic experience Worldwide describes itself as an association based on post-colonial principles, which is also anchored in the association's statutes.

The world pointed out that aeWorldwide's approach is not without controversy. According to one criticism, he is dealing with a luxury problem because he is addressing a small group of refugees.

Awards
