The Acanthoecida are a group of the so-called collar flagellates . It comprises 32 genera.

features

All species are single or colony living cells, free-swimming or sedentary. A stem can be present or absent. The housing is a lorica made of rib-shaped silicate strips .

The clearly pronounced collar stands around the base of a single scourge in front .

distribution

Species of the Acanthoecida are only found in brackish and sea water.

Systematics

The group, first described as a family by Richard E. Norris in 1965 , was founded in 1997 by Thomas Cavalier-Smith and in 2011 by Frank Nitsche et al. corrected in their scope ( emendation ). The group includes 32 genera:
