Acarigua is a city in Venezuela and is located in the state of Portuguesa .
It is the capital of the Páez district . Acarigua was founded on September 29, 1620 , but there was an indigenous settlement of the same name there before that. It extends over an area of 110 km². According to estimates from 2006, the population is around 250,000, with the agglomeration around 390,000.
