The Acea SpA ( acronym for Azienda Comunale Energia e Ambiente ) is an Italian utility company based in Rome . The company operates in the areas of water , electricity and natural gas supply , as well as in waste management .

history

Acea SpA was founded in Rome in 1909 as AEM ( Azienda Elettrica Municipale , German: Municipal Electricity Company) .

In 1912 the first thermal power plant was put into operation in Montemartini.

In 1937, the Governor of Rome entrusted the operation, construction and maintenance of the city's aqueducts and water distribution networks to the AEM.

From 1964, Acea finally controlled the entire Roman water network.

In 1992, Acea was converted into a special purpose vehicle and from January 1, 1998 into a public limited company and was listed on the Borsa Italiana in July of the same year .
