Achille Grospierre

Achille Grospierre (born May 25, 1872 in Le Locle , † December 10, 1935 in Bern ) was a Swiss trade unionist , watchmaker and politician ( SP ). From 1917 to 1935 he was a member of the National Council.

biography

After his compulsory schooling in Le Locle, Grospierre completed an apprenticeship as a watchmaker like his father before him. From 1903 he was secretary of the shell maker association (union of watch case craftsmen), then from 1910 its president. From 1912 he was secretary of the watch workers' association Fédération des ouvriers de l'industrie horlogère under Émile Ryser . In 1915 he was one of the co-initiators of the Swiss Metal and Watch Workers' Association (Smuv) and headed its central secretariat in Bern . He was also an editor for the workers' newspaper Lutte Syndicale .

From 1903 to 1915 Grospierre was a member of the local parliament and the local council of Le Locle. During the same time he was a member of the Grand Council of the Canton of Neuchâtel . In 1913 he ran for the first time as a member of the National Council when he ran for a by-election in the canton of Neuchâtel and was defeated by Auguste Leuba . However, he was successful in the National Council elections in 1917 in the constituency of South Jura . He was re-elected five times in a row in the canton of Bern . In 1932 he resigned as member of the National Council and remained Smuv Central Secretary until his death.
