Achille Philip

Achille Philip (born October 12, 1878 in Arles , † November 1959 in Béziers ) was a French organist and composer.

Philip studied at the Conservatoire de Paris , where he received prizes in counterpoint and fugue and in 1908 the Prix ​​Trémont . From 1904 to 1950 he was professor of harmony at the Schola Cantorum , then director of the Conservatory of Saint-Germain-en-Laye .

Alexandre Guilmant's organ student was from 1903 to 1950 organist at the Abbey Church of Val-de-Grâce , where he performed Bach's St. John and St. Matthew Passions and Mozart's Requiem every year. He also held positions as an organist at Saint-Jacques-du-Haut-Pas (1913), at the Hôpital Militaire in Val-de-Grâce (until 1950), at Saint-Léon , Saint-Francois-Xavier and from 1951 at Saint-Aphrodise in Béziers. He mainly composed organ works.
