Achim Schlöffel (born October 20, 1971 in Munich ) is a German diver . He is the first person to dive the English Channel .

Schlöffel learned to dive as an autodidact at the age of seven and completed more than 1000 dives before he went through official training.

After working as an instructor for Global Underwater Explorers for a long time , he founded InnerSpace Explorers - ISE, his own international diving association.

On June 29, 2012, Schlöffel dived from Dymchurch near Dover in England to Audresselles in France. He was driven about 10 km by the current, his GPS device failed due to strong waves. The dive time was about 8 hours plus 160 minutes of decompression time. The equipment configuration included a double diving scooter specially developed for the project and a redundant manual rebreather .

Schlöffel has been married for the third time since April 2012, is the father of twins and lives in Munich. In addition to the diving association ISE, he runs a boat restoration company and works as a photographer.
