Achmetha ( Georgian : ახმეტა, ɑχmɛt'ɑ ) is a city in the region of Kakheti in Georgia .
Akhmeta is the administrative center of the municipality of the same name . The city is located on the right bank of the Alazani River . Akhmeta got city status in 1966. It has 7105 inhabitants (2014). To the north of the city is a Ghwtaeba (ღვთაება) basilica , which is mentioned in various sources as an apartment of the monk Anton Martqopeli .
