The Akhmetelis-Teatri-Warketeli line (Georgian: ახმეტელი თეატრი-ვარკეთილის ხაზი), formerly Gldani-Warketeli-Linie , Didube-Samgore-Linie and Didube-Rustaweli-Linie , also known as Akhmetelis-Warketeli-Linie for short , is the first line of the Metro Tbilisi . It opened in January 1966.

history

Already in 1940 there were considerations for a subway, because the tram system and the trolleybus network were completely overloaded. Construction began in the 1950s until the line opened in January 1966. It included the stations Didube , Elektrodepo (today: Goziridse ), Oktomberi (today: Nadsaladewi ), Wagsolski Ploscheds (today: Sadguris Moedani ), Mardschanischwili and Rustaweli . It was called the Didube-Rustaveli Line . On November 6, 1967, an extension to 300 Aragweli was completed. After further openings on May 10, 1971, November 1985 and January 7, 1989, the line grew to 19.6 km. Since 1992, 5 of the 14 stations have been renamed. Extensions to the north and south are planned, but cannot be realized due to Georgia's financial situation.
