Acquanetta Warren (* 1956 in Compton , California ) is an American local politician. Since 2010 she has been the first African American mayor of the Californian city of Fontana .

Warren graduated from Occidental College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science . In the 1980s she worked in banking, first at Lloyds Bank California and from 1986 for First Interstate Bank . Warren has worked in the Upland City Public Administration since 1991 , currently as Vice Director of the Building Department.

In 1993 Acquanetta Warren moved to Fontana. For an African American, this step was remarkable in that Fontana was a stronghold of the Californian Ku Klux Klan until the 1980s . In 2002 Warren was first elected to Fontana City Council. In the summer of 2010, she ran unsuccessfully in the Republican primary election for the 63rd constituency of the California State Assembly , her party colleague Mike Morrell then won the main election in the fall. Also in the summer of 2010, Fontana's Mayor Mark Nuaimi resigned. In the mayoral elections in November 2010, Acquanetta Warren prevailed against five competitors. Her term of office lasted until the end of 2014.
