Ad van Kempen

Ad van Kempen (born July 12, 1944 ) is a Dutch actor and screenwriter .

Professional career

Van Kempen graduated from the Maastricht Theater Academy and then joined various theater groups. He directed plays, trained in the theater and also wrote plays.

He played the role of "Evert van Voorhuizen" in the television film Met alleen het geweten als meester in 1974 and took on a role in the film De laatste trein the following year . He then took on guest roles in the television series Willem van Oranje and De Appelgaard .

In 1988 he played in the film Mijn idee: Suspicion and between 1989 and 1993 had guest roles in three different television series. In 1994 he was involved in both the scriptwriting and the actor in Theo van Gogh's film 06 , which won the Dutch Film Critics Award and the Special Jury Prize at the Dutch Film Festival.

Until 1997 he worked in two other television series and in 1997 took over the role of captain in the film De verstekeling , which was shown in Germany under the title Blinder Passenger . The film was shown in October of the same year at the Mannheim-Heidelberg International Film Festival , where it received awards in the “International Independent Award” and “Prize of the Ecumenical Jury” categories. In 1998 he played the role of "Karel Veldman" in the television series Het souterrain .

The following year he was seen in the film Missing Link , which was awarded the Golden Calf in the category “Best Screenplay of a Feature Film (Best Scenario)” at the Dutch Film Festival . The drama Jacky , in which he took on the role of an agent in 2000, was nominated for Best Film at the Buenos Aires International Festival of Independent Cinema.

Also in 2000 he starred in the film Gloria and after another guest role in a television series, and in 2002 in the film Kwade reuk . The film Loenatik - De moevie followed in 2002 and received the “Audience Award” at the Dutch Film Festival. In 2004 he starred in the twelve-minute short film Canada and took guest roles in three other television series until 2006.

In the romantic comedy 'n beetje, directed by Martin Koolhoven , he played the role of "Thijs" in 2006. The film was shown at the European Film Market of the Berlin International Film Festival .

In the movie Mein Kriegswinter , shot in 2008 , he took on the role of "Schafter". The film is also known under the English title Winter in Wartime and was nominated for the Oscar film prizes for best foreign language film and the Satellite Award in 2009.

In 2009 he starred in the 10-minute short film Schattebout , which was shown at the Dutch Film Festival.
