The Dutch village of Maaskantje would probably not be known to anyone if the proletarian gang calling itself “New Kids” , consisting of Richard, Robbie, Rikkert, Barrie and Gerrie, caused a sensation. Your everyday life revolves around tuned cars, beer, swear words and fights. They carry Old School -Outfits combined with gold chains, mustaches, mullet hairstyles, colorful baggy trousers and other accessories from the 1990s.

Barrie has been unemployed for a long time , but his friends are also losing their jobs overnight due to an economic crisis in the Netherlands and their poor performance. Because they cannot get by on their unemployment benefits , they drive to the employment office , where they vent their anger in order to receive more money. After a few days they will receive a letter from the employment office informing them that they will no longer receive any unemployment benefits from now on because of the threats they have made to the officials of the employment office.

Since they no longer receive any money, they decide to stop paying for their consumption. Instead, they steal canned beer in the supermarket, their lunch at the village snack bar and gasoline for their green Opel Manta at the gas station. When bailiffs and police show up on Richard's doorstep, they collect beatings, but no cash. A TV station from North Brabant learns about the Maaskantje rebels and sends a team of reporters to Maaskantje to film an interview with the five boys. However, the money received from the interview immediately trickles through the boys' hands.

When other residents of the region followed the example of the “New Kids”, riots broke out in various places. The local police are found to be unable to regain control of the situation. The Dutch government then decides to wipe Maaskantje with a gigantic bomb. However, the attack first hits the neighboring village of Schijndel , whereupon the New Kids buy weapons from the Second World War from an old gun fanatic in order to defend their village. The residents of Maaskantje are leaving their village when they learn that the government has sent special troops to evacuate.

Finally, the five boys manage to put the approaching troops to flight in a riotous firefight.

However, the local police officer showed no mercy and arrested the five troublemakers. Despite a long list of criminal offenses, the court sentenced them to only 240 hours of social work each.

The film was shot in the Dutch province of North Brabant in Maaskantje , 's-Hertogenbosch , Schijndel , Den Dungen , Heeswijk-Dinther and Sint-Michielsgestel . The locations in North Holland were in Amsterdam and Hoofddorp . On April 16, 2010, plans for the production of the film were announced. Shooting of the film began on June 29, 2010. The budget of the film was estimated at 1.5 million euros , which on the opening weekend in the Netherlands with revenues of over 1, 6 million euros was brought in again. In the weeks leading up to the premiere, Comedy Central regularly broadcast scenes from the making-of of the film production. The premiere of the film took place on December 7, 2010 in Den Bosch . From December 9, 2010, the film was shown in the Dutch cinemas. On the evening of the premiere, the film set a new record in the Netherlands with 32,000 visitors. After eleven days, the film had already been attended by over 400,000 viewers, making the film platinum. With the subtitle Nobody fickt mit Maaskantje , the film was also released in German on February 3, 2011 in the Dutch cinemas of Eindhoven , Den Bosch , Nijmegen , Heerenveen , Panningen , Venray , Winterswijk and Hengelo . By mid-February, the revenues in the Dutch cinemas amounted to almost 8.8 million euros. The release date for New Kids Turbo in Germany was 21 April 2011. In the first cinema week were counted at the German box office more than 200,000 spectators, making the film on the first place in the German cinema charts reached. After three days, the producers received the Golden Film award for 100,000 viewers. Eleven days after its release in the Netherlands, the film was awarded platinum status with 400,000 admissions.

The film set the record for the highest sales on a premiere day in the Netherlands. Finally, with 57,000 viewers, it reached the record for attracting the most visitors in the Netherlands to the cinemas in one day.

In addition, New Kids Turbo was the quickest to achieve diamond status for 1,000,000 visitors in the Netherlands, taking one day less than the previous record holder Komt een vrouw bij de dokter .

In Germany, 203,000 visitors saw New Kids Turbo on the first weekend and thus helped the film to number 1 in the German cinema charts. New Kids Turbo thus had the most successful Dutch film launch in Germany.

At the Rembrandt Awards , New Kids Turbo was recognized as Best Dutch Film and the theme song by Paul Elstak as Best Film.

The second New Kids feature film, New Kids Nitro, premiered on December 8, 2011 in the Netherlands. The film was first shown in Germany on January 4, 2012.
