Flodder is the title of a Dutch film trilogy as well as a television series . At the same time, it is the name of an “anti-social” Dutch family around which all actions revolve. It is an invention by Dick Maas , who first created it in 1986 for the feature film Flodder - Eine Familie zum Smutschen , which was followed by two sequels. The films and the series were also broadcast repeatedly in Germany.

Due to a mistake for which the city is responsible, the Flodder family, who are socially weak and involved in all kinds of petty criminal acts, has to give up their previous apartment. Since no adequate replacement living space can be found, social worker Werner van Kooten takes the opportunity to accommodate the homeless as part of an experiment in an upscale residential area, the posh district of “Sonnenschein”. Because of the considerable social differences between the established and the new residents, as expected, conflicts, misunderstandings and all kinds of turbulence arise. When these are almost over and there are first rapprochements and almost reconciliation, an act of jealousy-induced revenge causes a final, tragic turn.

Gertraude "Ma" Flodder ( Nelly Frijda ): House smocks, rubber boots and cigars are the trademarks of the single mother and housewife, who is only called "Ma" by her children. She likes to drink whiskey, which she illegally distills herself in the cellar and sells it secretly to a satisfied clientele. Her children all come from different fathers.

Johnnie Flodder ( Huub Stapel , Coen van Vrijberghe de Coningh ): The oldest son is a petty criminal and would-be playboy. He always has several "things" going on, mostly stolen goods. Johnnie has numerous girlfriends and a soft spot for 1950s America. He wears a bleached rockabilly great, a red leather jacket and tight jeans and drives a shabby pink Cadillac Fleetwood Eldorado Convertible .

Kees Flodder ( Tatjana Šimić ): The beautiful blonde also changes boyfriends often and likes to use her physical stimuli successfully to top up the family budget or to get a new car on favorable terms. Her hobbies are shopping and sunbathing in the garden.

Klaus Flodder ( René van 't Hof , Stefan de Walle ): He's really stupid because his brother Johnnie put him in the washing machine when he was a toddler, and he often behaves childishly. He is always at Johnnie's side and tries to support him in his illegal activities. Besides stressed Klaus like in the women's shower the tennis court. He also has sexual intercourse with his older sister every now and then, although this was initially barely or not at all noticeable to viewers of the German TV versions thanks to censorship cuts.

Grandpa Flodder ( Jan Willem Hees , Herman Passchier ): The pensioner initially sits in a wheelchair, which in the first film is actually his fatal fate. However, in the final Flodder film, it turns out he can walk. According to Johnnie, he's not part of the family; rather, he “came along with an aunt and somehow got stuck with us.” He has a pronounced preference for railways, as he was probably once a conductor.

Werner van Kooten ( Lou Landré ): The caricature of a social worker with glasses and a leather vest is always greeted by Johnnie with “old wanker!” Or “well, you lout”. He is unlucky and gets from one problem to the next. In the first film he is injured by a Molotov cocktail and later by the destruction of the Flodder house during a celebration. In the second Flodder film, he is sexually reassigned , robbed, mistakenly mistaken for a beggar and ends up in prison.

Minor characters

Tina and Holgie Flodder ( Nani Lehnhausen and Horace Cohen , Mandy Negerman and Melle de Boer , Scarlett Heuer and Sander Zwart , Djune-Ann van Asten and Rogier van de Weerd ): They are Ma Flodder's youngest children, whose pranks are for the most part criminal are to be designated.

Karlchen ( Miguel Stierter ): A friend of Johnnie's. He often helps him, gives him dubious jobs and sells him various useless things.

Van Putten ( Hans van Hechten ): Driver of a sales car (SRV-Wagen) that delivers groceries to the affluent Sonnentaler to the house.

Whiskey : The Flemish Black Cattle Dog is the Flodder family's pet. On the one hand, Mother Flodder values him as a vicious farm animal, but on the other hand, he is regularly abused and kicked as a wretched manure . He also likes to mate with Pepita, the pure-bred bitch of the Nettelbaums.

The tattoo artist Henk Schiffmacher appeared in another small supporting role .

Most of the filming took place in and on the studio area at Bolderweg 22 in Almere . In addition, the Kollenberg district was used by Sittard -Geleen, although the southern part of the Ross-van-Lenneplaan is mostly newly built and only the course of the street is reminiscent of the former location. Broadcast in Germany

The German premiere of "Flodder - Eine Familie zum Knutschen" took place in 1992 on Tele 5. Both the films and the series were repeatedly broadcast by the RTL Group channels, for the first time on RTL . The series premiered there in early 1994 and was last shown in 2004 on Super RTL .

German versions

As was common then (and to some extent still today), proper names were changed in the course of synchronization. In some cases, especially in the German series version, details of the plot were changed for no apparent reason. In many cases, an attempt was made to add "more joke" to a degree that was actually no longer normal after 1990.

Examples of changes in the German film and series versions:

The Dutch names of many of the characters have been "Germanized". This is the name of daughter Toet Tina, the neighbors Neuteboom became the Nettelbaums and Hennie Heiner. This is particularly noticeable with Klaus, who in the original - like his sister - is called Kees. From episode 37 of the series, the original names were used and some dubbing voices were changed.
The social worker Sjakie is introduced in the first film as "Werner, old wanker" (a quote from the Werner comics , which were popular when the film was released ), this otherwise unjustified renaming is consistently continued until the last series episode.
The residential area Zonnedael , in which the Flodders live, is called in the feature films (literally translated correctly) Sonnen valley ; in the series episodes is of suns shining speech.
In the series episodes, storylines have been completely "revised" or supposedly funny details have been freely added:
- In the episode One dies only twice (Ndl. Doodziek , usually terminally ill ), the lining of the coffin is said to consist of "Persian (cat) pubic hair", in the original version only an "oak coffin with white marble trim" is suggested.
- In the original, only slightly hinted "ticks" or peculiarities of (mostly secondary) characters are repeatedly emphasized in the German dubbed version, linguistically and in the manner of speaking, and the character is thus reduced more to this characteristic than recognizable in the original (e.g. the coffin seller in the above episode "Doodziek").
- The series Royal Birthday shows a whole series of changes that run through the entire work in one way or another and are therefore to be understood here as examples:
  - The originally determining context of the Dutch Queen's Day becomes a kind of "official visit" by the Queen as part of her birthday.
  - The "Oranjecommittee Zonnedael" becomes the "Christian Sunshine Union Party".
  - She is thinking about having the Flodders "shot" or alternatively sending them to a "prison island" (Cayenne) (in the original, a trip to the Sauerland is offered).
  - From the "Felicitatiedienst" ("congratulations service") invented ad hoc in the original at Ma Flodder's request ("... You were made up by our service" "which service ?!"), the German version turns into the UN (organization "vacation necessary." ") , which, according to a synchronized declaration, is committed to social support for families in need through vacation.
  - Sjakie's initial offer of a bungalow stay in an amusement park becomes a "caravan tour through Bottrop and Castrop-Rauxel" and the Spanish resort of Torremolinos (which owes its name to historic windmills) becomes the island of Ipizza (in favor of a subsequent "pizza" pun).
  - Sjakie's nephew, who in the original pretends to be an employee of the "art authority", now comes here "from monument dirt, uh, protection of course". This stylistic device (adding additional "puns") is used repeatedly in many episodes (so here with "Professor Vodka, uh, Watkins", "Finest table mercury", "Vomiters, uh, slip of the tongue", "Kennedy - know them" etc.) .
  - Ma Flodder does not recognize the queen in the German version because she can be seen "on the back of the gulden" ("Front also, Ma!") , But "on the back of the dollar" ("Dem Gulden, Ma!)" .
  - From the off you can hear the newscaster explain that the Queen is visiting, according to reports unusual, "a kind of caretaker family" - in the Dutch original "the Queen makes the acquaintance of some Zonnedaelers, apparently nice people". The peculiarity in the original is that the queen goes into a house at all.
  - In addition, the off-news anchor explains that the queen "wants to stay with a typical Dutch family in order to get an idea of the customs and habits of the Dutch natives", while in the original he is only amazed at the change of plan (home visit) as such .
  - From Johnny's allusion that Kees "redefined the term purveyor to the court" becomes the reference that she "kept the male part of the family in line".
  - When Kees goes out with the subordinate of "Cool Harry" in season 2, episode 6, when he says goodbye, he says to her, "I don't have Richard Gere's face, but the voice is the same". The voice actor of the German version is the same as Richard Gere's (Hubertus Bengsch).
