Dick Maas (born April 15, 1951 in Heemstede ) is a Dutch director , producer , screenwriter and film composer .

Live and act

In 1977 Maas successfully completed his film studies at the Dutch Film Academy in Amsterdam. He concluded with the two short films Picnic and Adelbert , both of which were broadcast on Dutch television.

In 1981 he directed Rigor Mortis, his first feature film for Dutch television. Two years later he made his first movie with Elevator des Horens , which was a success in the Netherlands alone with more than 900,000 visitors and led to an award for Maas at the festival in Avoriaz , France .

In 1982 Maas shot the video clip for the Dutch rock band Golden Earring for the title "Twilight Zone". In 1984 he founded a film production company with Laurens Geels called First Floor Features . In 1992 Maas won the European Film Prize “Felix” for his collaboration with director and actor Alex van Warmerdam for the film “ Die Noorderlinger ”.

Dick Maas was also active in Hollywood, he directed an episode of the television series The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones in 1992 and the television film The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones: Masks of Evil in 1999 .

In 2001 he filmed his movie debut "Elevator of Horror" as a remake under the title Down .

Dick Maas won the Gouden Kalf four times at the Nederlands Film Festival . He often makes films with his compatriot Huub Stapel in the lead role.

Since Maas plays both guitar and piano, he also works as a film composer.
