Laurens Geels

Laurens Geels (born January 1, 1947 ) is a Dutch film producer .

In 1986, 1996 and 1997 he was awarded the Gouden Kalf at the Nederlands Film Festival .

Live and act

In 1984 he founded the film production company First Floor Features with Dick Maas , in whose shadow he stood all his life . In 2004 the joint company went bankrupt; In contrast to Maas, Geels has not yet freed itself from the resulting debt. The bankruptcy also resulted in a dispute between the partners who no longer work together.

Geels is the stepfather of the actresses Sarah Geels and Anja Geels and the father-in-law of Victor Reinier. He is the father of four other daughters.

In 2006, the family was embroiled in a scandal when the 42 and 39 year old daughters accused their father of sexual abuse allegedly committed between the ages of ten and twenty. They applied for an injunction to prohibit him from entering certain areas in their homes in Amsterdam-Zuid . A criminal complaint for abuse was not possible, as the alleged acts would have been time barred under Dutch law. The daughters, however, lost the proceedings for the injunction.
