Resistance is an American-Dutch war drama by Todd Komarnicki from the year 2003 .

action

January 16, 1944 in Germany-occupied Belgium : The American Major Theodore Brice, known as Ted, crashes in an airplane near the village of Delahaut. The son of the Nazi faithful Artaud, Jean, finds the seriously injured pilot and brings him to Claire Daussois, who, like her husband Henri, belongs to the Resistance . Ted was on a reconnaissance flight to prepare for the Allied liberation of the country . There were documents on the plane that would prevent an invasion in the hands of the Germans. The members of the residency discuss whether they should return to the aircraft wreckage guarded by Germans and get the papers or whether they should trust that the papers have been destroyed on departure. Lucette, a saleswoman, is one of the few who want to get the papers. Under pressure from the others, she decided not to rescue the papers, in which the German guards would have to be killed, which would result in further retaliatory strikes by the Germans.

While Henri and the other members of the Resistance are preparing acts of sabotage against the occupiers, Ted slowly regains his strength in his hiding place in Claire's house. Anthoine warns Henri that Ted and Claire appear to be close, but Henri doesn't want to know about it. The following night, the German guards are murdered and the secret papers are stolen. The Germans raid Delahaut and hang numerous villagers. Jean writes down the names from a hiding place and gives the list to Claire, who, in the face of Ted who is still recovering, refuses to follow her husband and the other members of the Resistance to a hiding place outside the village. Claire tells Jean not to show anyone the list of the dead.

While Henri and the others are carrying out acts of sabotage, Claire and Ted get closer, kiss and sleep together. Ted confesses to Claire that he loves her and is already planning a wedding. Jean, on the other hand, finds surrogate parents in Claire and Ted, as he rejects his true-to-life parents. One day, Claire learns that Ted will be picked up by the Resistance in three days and taken home. Ted refuses to leave in front of Claire, but she makes it clear to him that she will never leave Henri for him. Together they drive to a neighboring village, where no one knows them, and eat together in a pub. In the village they meet Henri, who recognizes the intimate similarity between the two. He tells Ted that he will be picked up by the Resistance that evening. He tries to find out what happened between Claire and Ted, but Jean only gives him the list of Belgians killed by the Germans. Henri accuses Ted that all the people died because of him, he believes that he secretly got the papers from the crashed machine. Henri later drives Ted to the transfer point, which is actually a trap for the Germans. They arrest Ted and later arrest Henri and Claire as well. Henri is tortured to death; Ted sees the abused Claire at the SD office and takes all the blame for the murder of the German guards. He is killed while Claire is being released.

After the occupation ended, in the spring of 1945, Anthoine returned to Delahaut, where Lucette was waiting for him. She tells him about Claire, Henri and Ted's fate and that Ted took the blame on himself even though he was not the culprit. It becomes clear that at that time Lucette killed the guards and took the codes. Meanwhile, Jean has stayed with Claire, whom he calls mother. He often spends his free time on the wreck of the plane in which Ted crashed, and plays "flying".

criticism

The lexicon of international film found that the film seemed like a “not entirely successful paraphrase of René Clément's Night of Fulfillment (1962). The role of the Resistance is hardly deepened. "
